Air China is planning to sell its major stake to Capital Holding considering uncertainties in international trade.
Capital Holding will own 51% stake of the airlines after $ 357m transaction is complete.
The remaining 49% will be owned by Cathay pacific.
Capital Holding is a wholly-owned subsidiary of state-owned China National Aviation Holding Corporation (CNAHC), which is also a 53.5% shareholder of Air China.
Air China said: “Given the complex international trade situation and the expected weakening of Renminbi, the profitability has not been fundamentally improved. Due to the extended period of poor performance, there is still a large amount of losses to be covered.”
Air China gave two reasons for the selling of its freight-carrying subsidiary: “With the increase in the income of residents, the upgrade of consumption structure, and the increasingly close economic tie among regions, the air passenger transport business maintains stable growth while possessing huge market potential.
“Following the disposal of Air China Cargo, the Company will further concentrate its resources on the air passenger transport business to increase the competitiveness thereof while mitigating the impacts of intensified competition in the cargo transportation market and uncertainty of international trade situation on the Company’s business performance”.

Federal Express officially started operations at Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA) in Bloomington on February 2. It follows an announcement in May 2014 that it was pulling out of its operation at nearby Peoria airport, on the west bank of the Illinois River.
The express carrier said the move would allow it to upgrade its priority overnight service and offer earlier delivery times to the central Illinois market, while maintaining delivery times to Peoria itself. Flights will operate mainly to Indianapolis and Memphis.
FedEx’s arrival fills a gap for CIRA, which lost passenger carrier Frontier Airlines in November and also suffered from the shutdown of DHL’s US operations in 2008.

IAG Cargo has extended its Cargo Connector service to San Francisco, the tenth city for the local pick-up service.
It offers freight forwarders at or near the airport a free collection for consignments up to 300 kilos and IAG Cargo estimates that 95 per cent of its customers are based within a five-mile radius of the airport. This means that the Connector vans are never far away when a pickup request is received.
Regional commercial manager for North America, Joe Le Beau, says Cargo Connector was “more cost efficient for smaller freight forwarders that would normally pay a third party to deliver their freight, but also with our GKAs (global key account customers) who really appreciate the peace of mind this service offers."
Cargo Connector is already available in seven US cities - New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Seattle and Houston - and at London Heathrow and Frankfurt.
Drivers use IAG Cargo-branded vans and collect freight and process new cargo bookings on-the-spot for IAG Cargo's network of 350 destinations.
Le Beau said that vans arrive at agents’ premises 15 minutes after IAG has their booking details.

Air freight rates continued to climb through November on the back of strong peak season demand and conversions from ocean freight as a result of US supply chain bottlenecks.
Drewry’s East-West Air Freight Price Index rose a further 5.3 points in November to reach an all-time peak of 120.8 points, exceeding the record high of 117.4 achieved in November 2013 by a comfortable margin of 3.4 points.
The UK-based consultancy expects air freight pricing to recede in the near term, as the peak season concludes and lower jet fuel costs start to feed into reduced fuel surcharges.

Air India SATS Airport Services Pvt Ltd (AISATS), a 50:50 joint venture between Air India Limited and SATS Limited, a gateway services and food solutions provider in Asia, has introduced an e-freight initiative at its Bengaluru Airfreight Terminal facility.
With this launch, AISATS BLR has taken a step towards IATAs e-freight initiative, building a paper-free air cargo supply chain and replacing it with cheaper, accurate and reliable electronic messaging, AISATS said in a statement.
To facilitate this, AISATS has incorporated its Airport Community System (ACS), a web-based electronic platform that enables seamless electronic data interchange (EDI) between various stakeholders in the air cargo value chain. With this system in place, AISATS is well-equipped to do away with the traditional paper-based shipping data consolidation, and move towards electronic data management.
"With this online portal, freight forwarders and cargo handling agents will have complete shipment visibility and be able to send data demanded by multiple carriers, customs, and airport operators electronically through a single portal without doing duplicating data entry efforts on separate platforms," AISATS said.
The ACS will also help in creating airline booking requests and sending the same electronically to the airlines including creating and printing of Master Air Waybill, House Air Waybills and Bar Code labels. This is set to ease sending FWB / FHL messages to airlines as well as create and print customs clearance documents.
Willy Ko, CEO, AISATS, said: "Since its inception, AISATS has always been committed towards minimising impact of its operational processes on the environment. This e-freight initiative is yet another effort by AISATS and it is a big stride towards fulfilling its desire to protect the environment. Not only will this green initiative increase operational efficiency but it also help to preserve the environment by effectively reducing paperwork."
